Guildford Driving Test Centre: Pass Rate, Roads & Test-Day Tips

A busier, more varied test — and very passable once you know the roads. Guildford is the centre for our learners in Guildford, and an alternative for those in Ash and Tongham. It packs industrial traffic, fast A-roads and country lanes into one test, so we practise all three.

The Roads Around Guildford Test Centre

Five things every Guildford test tends to include — and what we practise for each.

TEST CENTRE12345

Illustration only. The DVSA does not publish test routes — the examiner picks one on the day.

  1. 1

    The Slyfield start

The centre is on a working industrial estate. Expect vans and lorries from the moment you leave the car park.

  2. 2

    A320 Woking Road

A busy single carriageway with steady traffic. Emerging onto it safely is the first real decision of the test.

  3. 3

    The A3 and A25

Fast dual-carriageway driving with short slip roads. Building speed early and merging cleanly matters here.

  4. 4

    Stoughton, Bellfields & Burpham

Residential streets with hills and parked cars. Good clutch control and patience when meeting traffic.

  5. 5

    Lanes towards Jacobs Well

Narrow country lanes at the national speed limit — where the right speed is often well under the limit.

Your Test in 40 Minutes

Up to 15 minor faults is still a pass. One serious or dangerous fault is not.

STEP 1

Eyesight & safety

Read a number plate, answer one “tell me” question.

STEP 2

General driving

Normal roads, one reversing manoeuvre, one “show me” question.

STEP 3

Independent driving

About 20 minutes following a sat nav or road signs.

STEP 4

Your result

Back at the centre, with feedback from the examiner.

Guildford Test Centre FAQs

It is on the Slyfield Industrial Estate, off Moorfield Road, Guildford, GU1 1SA — on the north side of the town, just off the A320 Woking Road and about 10 miles from Aldershot.

DVSA figures for 2024–25 put Guildford at 51.8%, against a national average of 48.7%, across roughly 5,000 car tests. That is the centre’s figure for every candidate who tested there, not a GlideX statistic.

On the published figures Guildford’s pass rate is lower — 51.8% against 58.3% in 2024–25. The roads are more varied: industrial-estate traffic, the A3 and narrow lanes in a single test. The better centre for you is usually the one whose roads you have practised on most.

No. The DVSA stopped publishing routes and the examiner chooses on the day. The type of road is predictable though — the A320, the A3 and A25, the Stoughton and Burpham estates and the lanes north of the town — and that is what our lessons cover.

You can book any centre when you first book. Since June 2026 you can only move an existing booking to one of your three nearest centres, so it is worth choosing carefully. Tell us which centre you have booked and we will run your lessons on those roads.
